This weekend a mixture of year groups ranging from year 9 to 13 went on a drama trip to London. This trip involved watching two very entertaining productions and a workshop following one of them.
The first of the two productions we watched was Aladdin the Musical at the Prince Edward Theatre.
This show was based upon the Disney animated film. In this play there was the original songs from the film and a few additions which made the overall performance exciting and set it apart from the original film. The song ‘Friend like me’ sung by the genie was a big hit with it being one of the most eye catching scenes with both set and performance drawing your attention to it. The whole song was very fun and made everyone smile.
Following the musical Aladdin the next day we took part in a workshop at Pineapple Dance Studios with one of the actors from the performance. The workshop involved looking at a few scripts from different parts of the play. This helped us to look at our acting technique by playing the part of one of the main characters in the performance. Everyone had fun and it was a good experience to get feedback from a professional for future shows.
The final show we watched was The Play That Goes Wrong that took place in The Duchess Theatre. This was a contrasting piece to Aladdin as it was a comedy play. This play was all about performing a murder mystery in which nothing goes to plan. The production was extremely funny and was a very clever performance to watch, with such things going wrong as actors forgetting lines and the stage falling apart.
Overall the whole weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by students and staff and we would like to personally thank Mr Blain, Miss Davies and Mrs Davis for being able to provide this for us.
