Drama provides our children with the chance to explore new situations safely and creatively. Developing empathy is as important as the discipline of playing a part in a far bigger creation.
Drama is a powerful way of engaging all children in learning across the curriculum. Children use their bodies, their voices and the spaces and objects around them to investigate, understand and perform. Children can tackle concepts and ideas in drama that they might find difficult through other means, building confidence.
As well as using the Prep School Hall, children also use the theatres in the Senior School. Great Hall, the School’s main theatre space, was opened by David Suchet, an Old Wellingtonian, in 2010 and the Southside Studio Theatre is the hub of the School’s annual Poetry Festival.
All children have the opportunity to participate in a major school production each year and other highlights include seeing Senior School productions, visits from theatre groups and trips to local theatres.
