Outdoor Education Trip over New Year

There is a wide range of opportunities outside the classroom, organised and run enthusiastically by members of the teaching staff. Activities take place throughout the week and on Saturdays, offering a breadth of experience with pupils attending the clubs that interest them and those that fit into their busy schedules.

Many academic departments expand their curriculum by running clubs such as stage crew, science, technology and the varied range of musical opportunities.

Some activities are extensions of the games programme and make use of coaching expertise that may not be available in the usual games times. Tennis, gymnastics, trampolining and fencing are examples.
Instead of lessons on Saturday mornings there is an extensive activities programme which is optional for day pupils but which boarders are expected to attend. Saturday activities include motorised buggy-building, cookery, swimming, table tennis, art, film-making and sailing.
The opportunities at Wellington School are about participation, development and above all enjoyment.

Weekend Activities

An organised programme of activities runs every Saturday morning. Boarders who are in for the weekend are required to participate in these activities. Day pupils are also welcome to participate if they wish. (However, orchestra/band practices and school fixtures are compulsory for pupils selected, day or boarding.)

Usually, each session lasts for a half-term block and there will typically be six activity choices in each session. Most activities are free, though there will be a charge for sailing. No school uniform is required, although some activities will need specialist clothing.
The activities will run from 9.30 to 12.00, with a half hour break from 10.30-11.00.
In addition to those activities listed below, the school library will be used as quiet work space for those senior boarders and day pupils who would rather continue with their academic studies.
Details of music rehearsals are printed in the current term’s calendar.
Most sports fixtures will be played on Saturday afternoon, though there will be some games played in the morning, in particular most Lower School rugby fixtures. In this case, commitment to a school team will take priority over activities, though it will not preclude a pupil from attending the remainder of the activity sessions.
Listed below are the activities on offer at some stage during the year (several will be available for more than one session. Some will be one hour sessions: e.g. in the summer term a pupil may play softball from 9.30 – 10.30 and then swim from 11.00 – 12.00)
The list of activities on offer during each term is printed in the School calendar but may include;

All players involved in these ensembles are required to attend on the scheduled dates and these rehearsals take priority over other scheduled Activities.
The details of all weekly music rehearsals can be found in the music calendar on the website, as can all the relevant contact details for the Music department
