The Bronze Award at Wellington

Open to all Year 10 students as a Friday activity, D of E is a popular option where one can acquire the skills needed for successful navigation and expedition work.  We lead up to an assessed expedition at the end of the year, using the beautiful local hills and moors as our base.  En route, we complete a practice expedition on Dartmoor and local day walks.  In Year 11 students organise their time and contacts to complete the skill, service and sport elements of the award, with many moving on in the Sixth form straight to Gold.

The Gold Award at Wellington

Tuesday lunchtime sessions start after Christmas in the Lower Sixth and cover map reading and compass work, first aid, equipment and route planning.  A night navigation session takes place on the Quantocks in early February.  Practice expeditions for the Gold Award can take place in Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Dartmoor with the final assessed expedition on the Brecon Beacons.
