Friends of Wellington School

Who are we?

The Friends of Wellington School and Wellington Prep School, are every parent or guardian of a current or past pupil of Wellington School. Our committees are made up of parents, past and present, and others who enjoy being associated with the school. We are not to be confused with the Old Wellingtonians’ Association (formerly the WSA) who are the association for former pupils, or the Foundation which is a charity to promote the fulfilment of education through scholarships, bursaries and capital projects.
Membership to the Friends is free and we are always looking for ideas, a spare pair of hands at an event, a skill or even a resource that you could donate as well as new committee members.

What do we do?

We run regular events to bring parents together and through that raise money for every aspect of school life. Wellington is known for being a friendly school and for making children welcome. The Friends aim to do the same for parents by running supper nights, quiz evenings, Christmas and summer fairs, Burns Night, ladies' indulgence evenings, racing nights, murder mystery evenings, car boot sales, dances….. the list is endless.  We also run a 100 Club.

For further information on the 100 Club click here.

What have we spent the money on?

The Friends has been running since 1957 and our largest contribution was £450,000 for the Science Block at the Senior School followed by £45,000 towards the purchase of the site in which the Prep School and sports centre are built. Other donations include:
Gill’s Field, Northside development, choir robes, tents for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, lockers, musical instruments, stage lighting and equipment, tennis and athletics pavilions, cricket scoreboard and nets, a sewing machine, a dinghy, a snooker table, a scrummaging machine, gym equipment, water fountains and garden furniture. We aim to spend equally and fairly on all aspects of school life.

The Friends of Wellington Prep School was formed shortly after the Prep School opened in 1999 and got off to a flying start and has since bought the following from its own fundraising events:

Playground equipment, picnic furniture, goalposts, a sun sail for the nursery, 10 keyboards for the music department, new wheeled toys for Early Years, team football kit and 3 new outdoor tables for the playground and most recently a computer and software for “Learning Success”.
