Wellington School offers an exciting and diverse set of subjects in the Sixth Form. Our courses include the full set of so-called 'facilitating' A-level subjects, which are particularly highly regarded by top universities and indeed these facilitating subjects are extremely popular with our students.
Alongside these facilitating subjects our curriculum includes many other subjects which are important for our students as they prepare for future university study and careers.
Most students choose four subjects to study during their Lower Sixth year and these subjects are taken to AS-level. In the Upper Sixth year, our students usually continue with three of these subjects to full A-level standard, although some of our students continue with all four subjects. In addition, alongside the A-level curriculum we offer opportunities to work towards an Extended Project qualification and an AS-level Critical Thinking course. The Lower Sixth curriculum also includes a bespoke set of courses to help our students plan for their future: specialist staff deliver courses covering university application processes, careers planning, interview skills, and writing a job application letter and curriculum vitae. International students can also take advantage of a course for non-native English speakers, which leads to the IELTS examination required for university entrance.
Students in the Wellington School Sixth Form benefit from small class sizes and teaching from expert, subject-specialist staff, with excellent teaching facilities and resources. Although our expectations of our students are high, and we expect our students to be self-motivated when undertaking challenging academic tasks, our teaching staff provide very close support for students as they progress through the Sixth Form.
