Friends of Wellington Junior School

Who we are
The Friends of Wellington Junior School aim to raise money for the “smaller” extras for the Junior School, whilst having fun. We organise a variety of functions, some for all the school to participate in, such as the popular Summer Fair, fun family quiz nights and Barn dances. Others are just for adults, like the Ladies indulgence evening- great for pampering and gifts, as well as larger events, such as the sell out Burns Night and St Patrick’s evening.
We usually raise over £1000 per year.
| Where your money goes We seek bids for the money raised from everyone and meet termly to discuss which we can support. We have provided significant sums of money to the playground art works and timber trail; purchased larger items of ICT equipment e.g. laptops, digital camera and printing station; provided some larger play equipment to the Early Years; supported the Key Stage 2 production by providing money for makeup and costumes. We have also supported smaller items such as team sports kits; ice lollies on sports day; the golden leaf badges and a sum towards the Year 5 leavers’ event. The recent round of bids resulted in purchasing 10 keyboards for the music department; new wheeled toys for Early Years; team football kit and 3 new outdoor tables for the playground. |

SUMMER FAIR
One unusual way to keep cool in the recent warm, sunny weather was to be seen at Wellington Junior School’s summer fair last week (Monday 9th June) when Headmaster, Harry McFaul and other senior members of staff, Rachel Eaton-Jones (Deputy) and Year 5 teachers Roger Hitchin and Lee Lawrenson went in the stocks to be pelted with sponges.
‘Fortunately not everyone was a good shot,’ said Mr McFaul, ‘ so we didn’t get totally soaked! The sun dried us off fairly quickly - and it is all in a good cause’
The children organised various stalls – Farmers’ Market, plant sales, games, Tombola, Lucky Dip and the major attraction was the raffle with its vast array of superb hampers.
The fair may only have lasted an hour and a half but well over £1600 was raised for the six charities the schoolchildren had selected earlier in the year.
