We extend our warmest congratulations to Mrs Annika Jones,(nee Gluch), who has won the German Teacher of the Year  Award 2011.  The prize was presented at a special ceremony at the ‘Sommerfest der Deutschen Sprache’ at the German Ambassador’s Residence in London, by Dr Eckhard Lübkemeier, Head of the Political Department and Deputy Head of Mission.

Annika’s success comes as no surprise to those of us at Wellington who worked with her. Whilst at Wellington she contributed across so many areas and taught not only German, but also French, Latin and ICT. In 2008/9 she enrolled on the GTP programme, where she received ‘in house’ training in the MFL Department and external training from the Mid Somerset Consortium. At the end of the year she was rated an ’outstanding’ trainee. She subsequently went on to complete her NQT year at Wellington, before leaving us in 2010 to teach at St Mary’s, Calne. There, she has already raised the profile of German, through her innovative and engaging teaching. Our loss is certainly their gain!

Naturally, Annika is thrilled with her award and is keen to emphasize that she could not have achieved it without the support of her friends and colleagues at Wellington School where she spent her first years in teaching.
