Starting School

Starting school is perhaps the biggest transition in your young family’s life. We work hard to make it as relaxed and happy as possible. We know that education works best when home and school work together and you are warmly invited to take as active a part in school as works well for you and your family.

 Come and get to know us at any of the following events:

Open Mornings are held in September and May. All our staff are present (but no children) at the September Open Morning, so you have every opportunity to ask as many questions as you need. We are all in school on the May Day Bank Holiday so you can experience more of the unique atmosphere that is Wellington Junior School. On both occasions we run a crèche and refreshments in our school hall so you can enjoy a tour unencumbered with buggies or toddlers if you have a young family. All children are of course welcome to join you on your tour if you would prefer.

Pre-Nursery Come and Play Days are held every term for your young children to get to know school and our Early Years Staff in plenty of time before they start in Nursery or Reception.

Taster sessions with Jane Hester our Head of Nursery and Nickie Reed our Head of Infants help us to get to know you and your child further.

The New Parents’ meeting in June is a relaxed social and information sharing meeting and the opportunity to get to know other parents of pupils starting in the same year as your children.

‘Pop-Ins’ enable your children to meet their key workers and get used to the school environment for a fun filled play session.

Once your child has started at Wellington Junior School, you will find we maintain our commitment to getting to know you and your family. Staff are all around from 8 am in the morning and there are many formal as well as the informal opportunities for you to discuss how your children are settling into school.
