Reception fossil hunting at Lyme Regis

Reception fossil hunting at Lyme Regis

fossils1fossils2The children in Reception class had great fun clambering over the rocks at Lyme Regis looking for fossils.  Dr Dawes, a local palaeontologist, shared his expert knowledge with them explaining how the fossils were formed and what an ammonite used to look like.  The children filled their rucksacks with lots of interesting rocks and shells and were amazed by the ammonite graveyard.

A picnic lunch and play on the beach was followed by a walk along the seafront to the Dinosaurland Museum.  Here they were greeted by enormous dinosaurs and many interesting artefacts.  A fun day was had by all.
