Reception RNLI visit

On Friday we spent a super day at Exmouth visiting the National Lifeboat Centre.  The children were shown two lifeboats kept at the station.  The larger was an all weather boat and the smaller an in-shore craft suitable for launching quickly.  The children were fascinated by all the different gadgets used in an emergency.  The coxswain explained how the crew are summoned for a call out and showed the children the protective clothing they have to put on within minutes.  Emelia discovered the enormous weight of their gear.

After having a picnic the children spent the rest of the afternoon having great fun on the beach building sandcastles and splashing in the sea.  The weather was glorious with beautiful sunshine making an ice-cream a welcome treat.  The bus ride home was very peaceful as the children one-by-one nodded off!
