Junior School celebrates new outdoor learning and performance space

performance area 2The new term is off to a dramatic start for pupils at Wellington Junior School with the completion of a new outdoor learning space and performance area courtesy of construction firm Leadbitter Group.

The school won £5,000 worth of construction work in Leadbitter’s Build a Greener Better Healthier School competition and used the funds to transform an under-utilised seating area in their playground into an amphitheatre-style, tiered seating area perfect for the pupils’ music and drama performances.

Performance area 1Headmaster Adam Gibson said: “The new amphitheatre looks superb, and it was great to see the children come into school at the start of the new term and start exploring all the new possibilities!”

The new space will benefit all pupils, from the three-year-olds in the Nursery to the 11-year-olds at the top of the school, who will be able to use the space for outdoor curriculum instruction and informally during break times, as well as to stage their plays and music recitals. The pupils will also have the opportunity to put their mark on the new space by helping fill the two planters included at the rear of seating with new plants for all to enjoy.

Rob Bradley, Regional Director of Leadbitter’s Western Construction division, said: “Projects like this make such a big difference for pupils—inspiring their creativity and improving learning. We’re delighted to have worked with Wellington Junior School to deliver this project and hope that it will be enjoyed by their pupils for years to come.”
