Over half of GCSE students gained at least 6A*s and As

Wellington School pupils have performed extremely well in this year’s GCSEs with 55% of marks gaining A* or A grades. Over half of the students gained at least 6A*s and As amongst their final results, equalling the school’s previous best performance. 89% of grades awarded were at C grade and above. It was also pleasing to see how well the students performed in the rigorous IGCSE examinations taken in Mathematics and Sciences.

Headmaster, Martin Reader, congratulated the students: ‘To score high marks over such a range of subjects is very impressive. Together with their teachers they have worked extremely hard and managed to make huge contributions to school life at the same time. As the work place becomes increasingly competitive, these results and the ability to keep so many balls in the air at once will stand them in good stead.’

Mr Reader added that the top performing students will appropriately gain the most plaudits. However, the school was most proud this year of the many pupils who, through their dedication, achieved far more than their expectations.

Top performers were Akito Watkin with 13A*s and Victoria Beach with 12A*s.  Elizabeth Greenway, Jennifer Kilbey, Charlotte Paisley, Harry Parker and Christopher Tamblin  each gained 10 or 11 A*s.
