Girls get serious merit for RE homework
Annabelle Jay and Sophie Bennett chose ‘Campaign and raise money for a charity of your choice’ as their RE homework task for Rev Hellier. They decided upon Children’s Hospice South West, which supports and cares for terminally ill children and their families, across the South West.
After deciding to hold a Cream Tea, they contacted the charity, which sent them posters to advertise their event and t-shirts to wear on the day. They displayed the posters around the village where Annabelle lives and in local schools.
The girls had homemade jams donated to them by local people and then baked scones and six different types of cake in preparation for the event, which took place on 1st October.Â
They were very busy on the day, with over 50 visitors to their tea room, at Annabelle’s house. As customers arrived, the girls told them about the good work of the hospice and why they were supporting such a worthy cause.Â
The final amount they raised was £256.11, which they presented to the local representative Wendy Pollard, from the Wellington Shop. Following their success, they have received letters of thanks from the charity and an invitation to visit the hospice in Bristol.
So impressed was Mr Reader with their endeavours that he awarded them a Serious Merit.
