New Style Careers Evening receives positive feedback

The Alan Rogers Centre of Wellington School was buzzing with a hundred plus parents and Year 11 students at its new style Careers Evening. Twenty-eight parents from a wide range of careers gave up their time to give advice and one-to-one interviews to the students to help prepare them for making decisions on their future career paths. Head of Careers at the school, David Colclough said, “In these uncertain times we must ensure our students are fully prepared for their life after school”.

For over two hours the parents faced the inquisitive students and explained their careers.  The feedback from the parents about the students was very positive.  Letitia Jones, a parent and Chartered Surveyor, said, ‘I have known most of these children since they were 4 years old at the Junior School and they are such a delightful year group! I find they restore my faith in youngsters; they are a pleasure to talk to, so well mannered and can hold a conversation with an adult and they are fun too!  Congratulations to the school for turning them into such polite well-rounded individuals!’

David Colclough explained, “the idea of a parents careers evening actually came from one of our parents.  As it is the first time we have run the event, we were unsure how the evening would go. With such positive feedback from students and parents alike, we plan to repeat the event next year.”
