Wellington pupils gain medals at British Physics Olympiad

Physics-OlympiadWellington School’s pupils picked up more than their fair share of medals at the British Physics Olympiad. The Pupils were awarded 4 out of a total of only 16 bronze medals awarded nationally.

The National Physics competition is run by the University of Kent in conjunction with Oxford University. Students from around the country had to answer the tricky question: “Which would be a better heat sink for a computer processor – a 2p coin or a brick?”

The following Wellington School pupils won Bronze Medals: Alan Kong and Jonathon Wong (in the Year 12 and 13 category) and Victoria Scorse and Twearly Peaster (in the Year 10 and 11 category).

Head of Physics Trevor Hill said, “I am delighted with the pupils’ success. This year a record number of our Year 10 and 12 students entered the competition. In addition to the medal winners many of our Year 10 pupils received a commendation.”

Pupils who were commended were Eduard Arakelyan, George Konstam, George Whitlock, Lily Juleff, Faye Roxborough, Rebecca O’Sullivan-Wilson, Lewis Sparks, Joe Lewis, Eloise Brown, Elaine White, Clare Sykes and Flora Johnson.
