AcademicWe have a reputation for encouraging academic excellence through teachers who are passionate about their subjects. Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 25: small enough for one-to-one support and large enough for the cut and thrust of lively debate. We practise the best of traditional methods whilst seeking to innovate and adapt to changing times and the individual learning needs of our pupils. From years 7-9, the curriculum is notable for its breadth. We want our boys and girls to discover and develop individual talents in order to make appropriate choices for GCSE. In addition to GCSEs, students take the International GCSE study in Mathematics and Sciences, recognised as a rigorous and effective preparation for A level. Our sixth formers take AS and A levels with many choosing to undertake the Extended Project, highly valued by universities. Our impressive exam results pay testimony to our approach. Learning is supported by the excellent Duke's Library, and we continue to develop both software and intranet resources to ensure our students have access to the most recent information and to develop research skills necessary for later study. In recent years, we have invested in new facilities to improve teaching and learning in Science, Art, Design, English, Theatre and Information Technology. |
