Religious Education
The RE department aims to assist students in contemplating the ultimate purpose of human life and to guide them in their personal search for meaning. This is done through the study of human experiences, which raise fundamental questions about beliefs and values. The department also aims to include a celebration of self, and a study of the variety of religious traditions. Personal reflection on attitude and values concerning daily life is encouraged, as is tolerance of each other’s sincerely held beliefs. There are extensive teaching resources and chairs with removable writing boards allow maximum flexibility and permit a variety of teaching styles to be used. They are easily rearranged for group discussion or stacked to allow drama and role play to take place.
The department uses a lively, wide-ranging and fast moving syllabus to stimulate and maintain interest in a subject that is highly relevant to the contemporary world. The GCSE qualification gives all students an understanding of Christian Ethics as well as an opportunity to study Islam. Philosophy of Religion and Buddhism are the main focus of the A level course, giving a still broader understanding.
RE homework and projects can take many forms, from traditional essays to 3D modelling and film making. Please take a few minutes to view the video below, made by two students, exploring the question: Jesus - What's His Impact?
