Boarding Pupils
Wellington School offers full, weekly and flexi boarding. Weekly boarding and flexible boarding are becoming increasingly popular amongst our parents and pupils who see this as providing a financially viable means of suiting modern family life.
The boarding community at Wellington School provides a friendly caring environment which is based upon family values. All boarding houses are maintained by live-in Housestaff who in turn are supported by tutors and matrons. Their role is committed to getting to know each individual pupil as well as ensuring that pastoral and academic monitoring takes place. Housestaff are also involved in organising evening and weekend activities; cinema, bowling and shopping to name but a few.
The Senior boys (13 - 18 years) live in 2 houses, Willows and Lights, whilst the Lower School boys (10 - 13 years) enjoy the space of Darks House. Lower School girls live in the Avenue and Senior girls have the privacy of Beech House. Each boarding House has a close-knit sense of family and community with strong support and participation in interhouse events. They work together to raise money for charity as well as performing Boarders’ plays and celebrating Chinese New Year.
A General Boarders Committee and a Food Committee meet regularly to discuss their needs and members of the boarding community contribute significantly to all areas of the School.
'People who haven’t experienced boarding would see it as just a place to sleep, but it’s so much more - it’s a home. The experiences, memories and close bonds I’ve made whilst boarding are ones I’ll cherish forever. It makes you more independent and yet you learn to live with such a wide range of people. Late night discussions on life and gatherings in the common room over a piece of toast, talking about everything a teenage mind thinks about are just some of our favourite pastimes, which help us to understand each other better. The House has such a relaxed atmosphere and there is always a cheerful face or a shoulder to cry on. It builds confidence, opinions and most of all character, and friendships to last a lifetime. I feel I am a better person for boarding and wouldn’t change it for anything.’ (Current Beech House boarder)
