ADMISSIONS
“One thing I would say to prospective parents to show them how good the school is, is how much I am going to miss it” Harry, School Captain 2007
At Wellington, we welcome applications for places at all ages although the most popular entry year groups for boys and girls are the Prep Year(Year 6), Year 7, Year 9 and the Sixth Form.
Admission criteria vary according to age. Those wishing to enter Prep or Year 7 will take the entrance exam in the January of the year of entry while those wishing to enter Year 9 and above will be interviewed in Maths, Science and Modern Languages. In addition, those pupils coming in from Prep Schools will also take Common Entrance.
Do please come and visit the School. A website and prospectus do not show the whole picture and we thoroughly enjoy showing prospective parents and pupils around what we consider to be a very special and a very happy school.
The only year groups where we do not admit pupils are Year 11 which is mid-way through the GCSE course and the Upper Sixth. Although theoretically it is possible to change schools during the public examination courses, we find that, in reality, it is impossible to match syllabuses. In such cases we would always recommend re-starting the GCSE or A level course even if this does mean dropping back a year.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Each year, following tests or interviews, we admit a number of international students and provide EAL classes accordingly. Applicants for the Lower Sixth Form should have achieved a minimum score of 6 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or have passed the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE). 8% of our students are international.
