Design and Technology

Design & Technology ImageWellington School pupils enjoy participating in Design and Technology, be it in formal lessons, or extra curricular activities such as the Greenpower electric car grand prix or the senior and lower school technology clubs. Students have a natural interest in how things work and how they can make them faster, better or just more interesting.

We assume pupils haven’t been exposed to a technological environment when they join us and start with the basics. We build upon their experiences in the design room and workshops as well as using knowledge they gain in other subjects throughout their time here at Wellington School. We apply this knowledge to practical design problem, each student designing and making individual solutions to the chosen problem, with each project pushing the students’ abilities and understanding of how technology works and the impact good design can have on our lives and our environment. Students can choose to continue studying Design and Technology with a short or a full course at GCSE level. At AS and A2 we offer Product Design and many of our students go on to university to study subjects such as 3D Product Design, Vehicle Design as well as the more traditional Engineering and Architectural based subjects
