Drama & Theatre Studies

Drama encourages pupils to co-operate effectively with those around them, to take on responsibility within a group. It fosters confidence in personal opinions, and illustrates the importance of independent learning.

At GCSE, pupils have the opportunity to perform in front of their peers, and explore their own interests across a wide range of theatrical options: design, technical and stage management personnel may work in collaboration with performers.

At A level, students continue to explore the theatre in a predominantly kinaesthetic way. Students’ skills are nurtured through involvement with a large extra-curricular programme, activities such as directing a part of the Lower School play, going on theatre trips, taking part in LAMDA examinations and building up technical expertise within, as well as independently of, the school.

The hope is that Drama students will develop into well-rounded individuals who are effective communicators. Recent students have gone on to study Drama at the Italia Conti Academy and at Guildford School of Acting, which is testament to the high quality of drama at the school.
