The School welcomes students who have English as their second language, provided that they can learn effectively whilst being taught in English. To this end, the ESOL Department supports students with their learning and assists them in developing speaking, listening and writing skills in English. Younger pupils are removed from some subject lessons (usually French), whereas older students take classes after school. Sixth form students are encouraged to prepare for the IELTS examinations allowing them to meet the requirements of studying at prestigious UK universities.
