Prep Year Science
By nature, humans are inquisitive. In the Prep Year, the students’ natural curiosity will be actively encouraged in their Science lessons. In lively debates, questions like ‘Why?’ and ‘How?’ will be countered by ‘How could you find out?’ or ‘Can you investigate?’, and they will be challenged to solve the mysteries themselves.
The Prep Year (Year 6) will follow a science course that is designed to stimulate their inquisitive nature. The course is practically based and is linked to the methods of experimentation and testing that form the basis of scientific research in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
They will use all their senses to explore the world around them and see how modern inventions affect the way in which we live. They will delve into the intricacies of man-made machines to discover what makes them tick, and they will try to solve some of the many puzzles we encounter in Nature.
Their attempts to discover the answers will take place in well equipped laboratories or, should the occasion demand, in the school grounds or beyond, and they will be guided in their explorations by specialist science teachers. Practical investigations will be carried out at every opportunity and they will have to stretch their own design skills and application to solve problems.
Science is all about bangs, smells, colours, movement, noises and much, much more………………………………...and the Prep Form will meet them all!
