Lower School Pupils Explore Ancient Pompeii on Classics Trip to Italy

Forty-eight Lower School pupils travelled to the Bay of Naples on our biennial Classics trip to Italy.

During the visit, they explored the spectacular remains of Pompeii, learning first-hand how archaeological evidence can help us understand the lives of its Roman inhabitants.

Classics proved to be the ultimate cross-curricular subject as pupils considered health and sport in the baths, drama and music in the theatre, business and entrepreneurship in the fulleries and bakeries, religion in the temples, geography through the volcanic eruption that overwhelmed the town, and design and architecture in the layout and decoration of the houses.

There was also plenty of time to relax in the pool and enjoy a well-earned gelato afterwards.

Wellington’s passion for helping pupils understand that we live in an interconnected world, where each subject enhances another’s learning, was very much in evidence throughout the trip.

Thank you to Mr Costello and the team for a fantastic experience.
