Encouraging Students To Remain Open-Minded In Their Aspirations

The Sixth Form Networking Dinner provided an excellent opportunity for students to engage with parents and Old Wellingtonian (OW) delegates in a professional yet welcoming setting.

The formal dinner, allowed students to develop confidence in social and professional etiquette while initiating meaningful conversations with experienced professionals.

Following the dinner, students participated in a structured speed networking session, enabling them to interact with a wide range of delegates across sectors including healthcare, IT, business, finance, military, defence, and engineering. This format allowed students to gain valuable insight into a variety of career pathways, as well as the qualifications and skills required for success in each field.

In line with insights from the World Economic Forum, discussions highlighted the growing importance of key skills for the future workforce, including creative thinking, analytical thinking, curiosity and lifelog learning and technological literacy and AI. Delegates reinforced how these competencies are increasingly vital across all industries as we look towards 2030.

A particular strength of the evening was the opportunity for students to hear authentic career journeys. Delegates spoke candidly about their experiences, offering reassurance that there are multiple routes to success and encouraging students to remain open-minded in their aspirations.
