Claire Bailey, Head of Careers, has masterminded the most inspirational week for pupils across the whole school with a huge range of events and talks.

We were delighted to hear from Anna Sands (PolSoc Society), Jonathan Gaskell speaking on Palaeoanthropology, talks in Drama from former Wellingtonians who are now enjoying success at RADA, LAMDA and a BAFTA award winner, Jess Eve speaking at the MedSoc society and Alivia Redman, Associate Director of Deloitte, delivering the Future Steps National Careers Week Talk. 

In addition, a wide range of National Careers Week activities have taken place across the school:

  • Year 7 were inspired in  PSHEE lesson on careers, exploring personal skills and how these can lead to future career paths. Unifrog was also launched
  • National Careers Week Tutor Time activities.
  • National Careers Week Door Plaques highlighting staff careers.
  • In Academic Sport, Lower Sixth students focused on professional development within the sports industry.
  • In Art, Year 8 followed the BBC Digital Curriculum and developed a media product in response to an industry brief.
  • In Classics, students compared mythological characters with modern-day careers.
  • In Computer Science and Digital Literacy, students took part in the Raspberry Pi competition, while Year 7 explored the use of AI with a careers focus.
  • In History, students examined how skills developed in the classroom translate into a wide range of professional careers, making explicit links between subject learning and the world of work.
  • In MFL, each year group watched a video case study followed by a guided discussion exploring the themes raised and the diverse pathways available through language study.
  • The Library and English Department welcomed author Chris Bradford, who delivered engaging workshops for Years 5–8.
  • Psychology and Biology hosted a webinar on NHS talking therapies and clinical psychology with the University of Sheffield and launched the ‘Big Psychology Challenge’ run by Cardiff University and Cardiff Met University.
  • The Earth Society created posters or presentations exploring careers connected to people and the planet.
  • EAL learners explored careers on Flash Academy, and the IELTS Speaking Club examined vocabulary and terminology related to careers.
  • Magazine Club researched staff career journeys and are currently writing articles.
  • Climbing Club explored careers as climbing instructors, looking at different pathways and qualifications.
  • Pre-Prep Assembly focused on careers featuring the appearance of Success Bear
  • Pre-Prep held a “People Who Help Us” afternoon with surprise visits from paramedics, police officers, ambulance and vets.
  • Mrs Bailey delivered an “Ancient Egyptian HR Workshop” to Year 4.
