Learning for Life Enrichment Programme
'Learning for Life' Enrichment Programme
At Wellington School we are fortunate to have a superb range of facilities and staff. As a result, we are able to offer an exceptional and unique package of educational enrichment opportunities to our nursery children; our ‘Learning for Life’ enrichment programme.
For those families using the Early Years funding, this programme carries a small additional fee as the services offered are above and beyond most other settings. All families choosing Wellington Nursery School are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the educational and development value from these additional services, which typically include:
Balanceability: This is the UK's first and only accredited 'learn to cycle' programme for young children and we are one a very few schools to offer this. It is delivered by qualified instructors in our superb sports hall and is designed to provide children with the best possible start in cycling. However, while children are learning to ride a bike, they are also establishing fundamental and secure balance – developing core stability, bilateral movement and confidence.
Forest School: In Nursery our Forest School sessions take learning outdoors for a part of the day as we visit our school’s beautiful forest school site in the Blackdowns. Activities may involve exploring the woods as a group and collecting treasures, building a den or simply taking an activity away from the classroom. Children develop confidence, teamwork and communication skills, as well as becoming young engineers and learning about risk and safety.
Music Lessons: Music lessons take place with the Prep School’s Director of Music and involve singing, simple composition and the opportunity to learn to play various different instruments.
Computing Lessons: Computing lessons take place in different rooms around the School from Nursery to the Computer Suite to the Headmaster’s Study! Using different educational apps, children explore the early principles of coding, as well as using iPads to enhance their literacy and numeracy skills.
Physical Education: The PE programme is delivered by the Prep School’s Sport and Wellbeing Department and is designed to ensure that children develop hand-eye co-ordination, core strength, balance, gross-motor skills and physical control. The sessions take place in our Prep School Hall and draw on the Real PE materials.
Ten Gems: This programme is a proprioceptive physical development programme that is based on the natural movements of babies and toddlers. It integrates left and right brain functions and helps to mature the vestibular system as well as any retained primitive reflexes that may hinder other areas of development.
Trips and Visits: As well as making the most of our large and exciting school campus, we enjoy travelling off-site as well. Whether this is a walk in to town to visit the Post Office or the Vets, or using the school minibuses to travel further afield.
