Enrichment

At Wellington we support all our students to pursue their academic interests beyond the taught curriculum.
We offer a wide range of academic clubs and societies that allow students to pursue their passions and to discover new ones. Students of all ages are encouraged to be academically curious, to spark connections and to link their knowledge across different subject areas. These clubs are often student led, enabling students to lead together and providing them with the chance to develop key skills such as oracy, creativity and collaboration.
Whether you want to enter national competitions with the debating team, build your own rocket in Engineering Society, take part in one of our robotics or coding challenges, or participate in a creative writing workshop, there really is something for everyone.

At Wellington, students are encouraged to embrace challenge and to see opportunity in the complexity which our ever-changing world presents. They are supported to enter a wide range of academic competitions that encourage them to embrace this challenge and enjoy considerable success across many different disciplines. These include Olympiads in Maths and the Sciences, as well as the Bebras Computational Thinking competition, with six of our students finishing in the top 10% in the country and one student achieving the very highest marks possible.
Wellington School has also received the prestigious Cyber First School’s Gold Award from GCHQ and the National Cyber Security Centre in recognition of our considerable strengths in this area, meaning that our students benefit from additional workshops and lectures.
In 2025, a student from Wellington was runner up in the prestigious international Minds Underground Engineering Innovation Challenge with her design of wearable AI enhanced echolocation detecting glasses. Our linguists regularly enjoy success in the Anthea Bell Translation Competitions organised by the University of Oxford. Success in essay competitions has also seen pupils’ work published, as well as winning them places on highly competitive summer schools.
2025-2026 will see students from Wellington School taking part in the global Earth Prize competition. This is the world’s largest environmental sustainability competition for students aged 13-19. It empowers young innovators to tackle global challenges through creative and actionable solutions that can make a difference.
As well as taking part in clubs and competitions, students at Wellington also hear from a range of inspirational speakers, and have the chance to meet and work with professionals at the cutting edge of their professions.
There are a wide range of exciting trips offered to support our academic curriculum. Amongst many others these include trips to France and Italy during Year 7 and 8, opportunities to visit Spain in Years 9-11, as well as our ever popular Sixth Form Geography trip to Morocco.
