OpenBadge Scheme

Wellington School runs an OpenBadge scheme to evidence pupils’ learning.
OpenBadges are the international standard for digital badges that can be shared online, including places like LinkedIn. Coded into them are the skills and knowledge that were demonstrated to be awarded the badge.
In Year 7, pupils set up OpenBadge Passports to showcase their badges. This Passport forms the start of a digital portfolio that will grow with them the rest of their life. After leaving school they could earn badges on university courses, in industry CPD, or through independent study.
At Wellington, there are various ways to earn Badges. One way is by completing an academic topic and demonstrating the required skills and knowledge in the assessment. Another is by completing a co-curricular activity, like delivering a Coleridge Society talk or passing a climbing course.
Our Independent Learning strands also have Badges. Four merits in a particular strand gets that Badge. Earning all six strand Badges gets the Independent Learning Master Badge.
Pupils can also work on external online courses that award Badges. For instance, the Open University has many free ones in a wide range of topics.
And for those who do DofE, they now issue OpenBadges for completing Bronze, Silver, or Gold.
