The Extended Project Qualification

The Extended Project Qualification

This qualification allows a student to choose a topic of interest and undertake an in depth study.  The qualification is equivalent to half of an A Level.

The student identifies an objective for the study, often in the form of a question, produces a plan, conducts research, documents their progress, completes the project and then presents the results to an audience.

A tutor helps the student to develop any necessary skills and monitors progress through the project.  The skills developed through tackling the extended project will be useful in higher education and many universities welcome students who are undertaking the qualification.

Many students choose a project title that it is in the same subject area as their intended university degree.  The specification is offered by the Edexcel examination board and the projects fall into 1 of 4 categories.  The table below summarises the categories and offers some example project titles.
