Citizens Wellington

CITIZENS WELLINGTON

Citizens Wellington runs as an option within the Schools Services programme. It is an alternative to CCF for students in Years 9-11. It offers students the opportunity to broaden their horizons both socially and in co-curricular areas.

Each year, staff involved in Citizens run a programme of activities.

A number of students have undertaken a dementia awareness course and now visit one of our local residential homes, to sit, chat, sing and cook with the residents. We have students organizing a comedy review for school charities. Others have been communicating with a school in Albania, some creating a sensory garden and others beginning to produce a thought-provoking newsletter for the whole school community. We will also be running a junior coaching qualification within this session.

Students have worked in the local Cottage Hospital and a nursing home chatting to the elderly, in local charity shops preparing goods for sale, in the local library and in playgroups and nursery schools. A group of students have also set up a Mandarin Speaking Club for other students.

We undertake three field days: one of community service i.e. a litter pick or car wash, one as a team building activity (this year we had a great day on the high ropes at Vivary Park) and one as an end of year celebration - bbq and chill.

All students are welcome to contribute their ideas to the programme each year.
