Climbing and Caving

Climbing and Caving

Making use of our own climbing wall, pupils learn to trust each other and work together safely.

Pupils can progress through the NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) as they log their climbs in activity sessions after school 3 days a week, supervised by our own qualified climbing instructors. Training programs are put together by our head coach to develop pupils' technical and climbing skills.

There are also opportunities to venture out onto the rock faces of Devon and Somerset.

Descending a cave requires teamwork and grit.

Whether it is a quick introduction to a dry horizontal cave, or a descent of a classic wet abseil, pupils get a lot of enjoyment from the challenge. Trips are always oversubscribed, such is the popularity of caving.

We run an in-house Caving Achievement Scheme. Technical and personal movement skills are looked at, as well as conservation issues relating to the karst environment.
