Ten Tors is renowned as one of the seminal outdoor challenges for young people in the South West.
6 months of training (normally 10 days including 3 overnight trips) culminates in the Ten Tors Challenge on the first weekend in May when over 2000 young people take part in the 35, 45 and 55 mile challenges.
Learning to navigate, be self-sufficient and wild camp on Dartmoor are the obvious benefits. Less tangible are the lessons in teamwork, leadership and resilience that can’t be taught in the classroom.
The challenge has become something of an institution at Wellington and it says much about our typical pupil that days are spent on Dartmoor in testing conditions with no material reward at the end, merely the knowledge that you have achieved and the friendships that will last a lifetime.
