We are a group of parents who make up The Friends of Wellington School CIO (a Charitable Incorporated Organisation). The 20 Trustees of the CIO are parents or past parents of pupils in the Senior and Prep School.
Any parent or guardian of a current or past pupil of Wellington School is considered part of the “Friends” groups. Membership is free and we are always looking for ideas, help and support, be it for an event we are running or as a Trustee.
We run events to raise money for those aspects of school life which are just a little out of reach of everyday departmental budgets as well as to provide friendly and informal opportunities for parents to get together. Wellington is known for being a friendly school and for making children welcome. The Friends aim to do the same for parents by running dinner dances, quiz evenings, ladies' indulgence evenings, race nights, murder mystery evenings and even car boot sales. As family events, we run film evenings and bingo sessions for the younger ones, Christmas and summer fairs, cake sales ….. the list is endless, and we are always looking for new ideas and the people to help make them happen.
We also run two Facebook pages, with the aim of publicising up and coming events, and to ask for help. Please use the links on the side of this page.
The Friends have been asked to fund everyday items across all areas of the School including tents for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, library equipment, stage lighting, water fountains, garden furniture, kayaks, fitness trackers, playground and picnic equipment to name a few.
The Friends have also generously funded larger projects such as the cost of replacing a window in the Chapel, furniture in the new 6th Form Centre and the development of the Forest School.
We aim to spend equally and fairly on all aspects of school life, across all school ages, for both Boarding and Day students. We love it when we are asked to raise funds for a section of the School we have not supported for a while.
If you would like to find out more about the work of the Friends, please make contact via the Development Office. According to your interests, we will then invite you to meet one of our existing committee members, to find out a bit more about current projects and opportunities.
Many of our Trustees started out as new parents to the School, joining a friendly and hard-working group of like-minded people, as a way of getting to know other parents. And even after their children have left School, we have parents who have chosen to remain as Trustees to this day. We would be delighted to welcome you too to the Friends of Wellington School.
We have recently started two initiatives to boost our funds. The first is easy for all parents to do and you can raise money for the School whilst doing your Christmas shopping. We have set up an online shopping app with easyfundraising which means you can turn your everyday online shopping into FREE donations for Wellington School. When you use easyfundraising to shop with any of the 4,000 registered retailers, the retailer makes a small donation to say thank you and easyfundraising send those free funds to you’re the Friends of Wellington School. You can find more information here.
The second is Match-funding fundraising. Many companies throughout the UK offer employees the chance to support fundraising efforts by 'matching' the money they raise. This means that an employee who volunteers at a Friends of Wellington School event can then apply to their employer for match funding. Sometimes organisations will match £ for £ and others will specify what they are prepared to give. Follow this link for further information.
