We run events, or support the school with their events, to raise money for those aspects of school life which are just a little out of reach of everyday departmental budgets as well as to provide friendly and informal opportunities for parents to get together.  Wellington is known for being a friendly school and for making children welcome. The Friends aim to do the same for parents by running  quiz evenings, once a month “First Friday” Coffee mornings in Café 37 and a weekly “Walk n Talk” in the local area. As family events, we run film evenings and bingo sessions for the younger ones, along with  our Fabulous Christmas  Fair.  We are always looking for new ideas and the people to help make them happen.

Recently the FoWS have donated:

Table Tennis tables across Boarding houses and the Prep and Senior Site.
Table football and sofas for the Lower School common room.
Sound “clouds” for Café 37 to create better acoustics.
Volley Balls and moveable courts that can be used by both Boarders and the Senior school pupils at lunchtimes.
A Wendy house, Balanceability bikes, equipment to start a school radio and TV club, and ongoing support of the Prep School Reading Challenge.

Historically the Friends have been asked to fund everyday items across all areas of the School including tents for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, library equipment, stage lighting, water fountains, garden furniture, kayaks, fitness trackers.

The Friends have also generously funded larger projects such as the cost of replacing a window in the Chapel, furniture in the new Sixth Form Centre, an AV system, the development of the Forest School and the Prep school playground.

We aim to spend equally and fairly on all aspects of school life, across all school ages, for both Boarding and Day students. We love it when we are asked to raise funds for a section of the School we have not supported for a while.

We have  two initiatives to boost our funds. The first is easy for all parents to do and you can raise money for the School whilst doing your shopping.

We have set up an online shopping app with easyfundraising which means you can turn your everyday online shopping into FREE donations for Wellington School. When you use easyfundraising to shop with any of the 4,000 registered retailers, the retailer makes a small donation to say thank you and easyfundraising send those free funds to you’re the Friends of Wellington School.  You can find more information here.

The second is Match-funding fundraising. Many companies throughout the UK offer employees the chance to support fundraising efforts by 'matching' the money they raise. This means that an employee who volunteers at a Friends of Wellington School event can then apply to their employer for match funding.  Sometimes organisations will match £ for £ and others will specify what they are prepared to give.  Follow this link for further information.
