Singing
For those wishing to sing, we offer a variety of groups:
Big Sing (All Year 7 pupils)
Bel Canto (Junior Girls)
BVox (Junior Boys)
M Vox (Senior Boys
A Cappella (Mixed Years / girls and boys)
Girlforce9 (Senior Girls)
Chapel Choir (Girls, boys, staff and friends across all ages)
Each group will tackle a range of genres from pop, jazz and contemporary through to some classical arrangements. All groups perform regularly and often support each other at concerts.
We also have an annual House Singing Competition and the opportunity to audition for and take part in one of the school's regular musical theatre productions. We believe in positive encouragement, not coercion!
Two professional vocal coaches come into School and work with many students on a huge range of pieces, styles and genres. Pupils also work towards singing examinations, in classical, musical theatre and pop.
In addition, pupils also devise and run their own groups, and are able to rehearse using the excellent facilities within the George Corner Music School. Our recording studio is in constant use at lunchtimes, with pupils rehearsing and recording their own material.
The Chapel Choir comprises some thirty-five of the most experienced singers in the school. The choir has earned a considerable reputation outside the School as a result of its numerous visits to sing services at churches and cathedrals from Truro to London, Rome to Prague, in addition to fulfilling its primary role as a focus for worship within the school at Chapel Services. The Chapel is equipped with a recently installed three manual Rogers electronic pipe organ, incorporated into the original organ casework, as well as a Steinway baby grand piano.
